| There are three types of filters you can use
for your swimming pool. Cartridge filters, sand filters and D.E.
filters. Sand filters are probably
the cheapest and easiest to maintain. The trade off is the water clarity
is not as good as the other two pool filters. D.E. swimming pool
filters can give the clearest water because they can filter down to 2
microns of a dirt particle. Swimming
pool cartrige filters are a good compromise between the sand and the D.E.
filters. Cartridge filters can
give you sparkling clear water without some of the problems and expense of
D.E. pool filters. When D.E. filters get dirty they can
significantly reduce the water flow, sometimes not giving enough flow to a
boosters pump to run. Also on older grids inside the D.E. filter
they can get rips which lets D.E. and dirt go through to the pool.
Backwashing can remove some of the dirt in the filter and will help
restore some water flow. A once a year tear down on the D.E. pool
filter is recommended to completely clean the filter which is a time
consuming and messy job. Swimming pool cartrige filters are quicker
to take apart to hose off and put back. Generally these
filters have to be cleaned once or twice a season by simply hosing them
off, so you don’t touch them as often. In terms of particle size
filtered out, cartridge is somewhere between sand and DE. |
